Hull damage on a canoe or kayak can appear several different ways. For example, if your canoe is a clear laminate canoe, meaning that you can see the kevlar on the inside of the boat, You may notice stress cracks in an area where the gelcoat may also be damaged. If you push on the area with your fingers and it feels softer than the immediate surrounding area, you have laminate damage and require a hull patch, and possibly a gelcoat repair. The same goes for canoes with colored gelcoat, the only difference is that you have to look for gelcoat cracks first. Then inspect the damaged area by feeling for soft spots with your fingers.

Laminate/Composite Repairs

Laminate repairs are required when the hull or deck of your boat appears cracked or fractured.  Or has become delaminated and soft.  This type of damage can be found on the interior or exterior of your boat’s hull or deck.

Plastic Repairs

Polyethylene welding is now available to repair cracks, splits or holes in plastic canoes, kayaks or stand up paddle boards.

If you have an aluminum canoe that leaks, you will need to find someone in your area that welds aluminum.  We do not do this at our shop. However, if your aluminum canoe needs any trim repairs, ie; seat replacements, missing rivets, yoke or thwart replacement etc. we will be happy to help with this.
