Trim Replacement for Your Canoe
If your canoe has older wood gunwales, and they are starting to fail, you could be setting yourself up for a canoe trip disaster! The inwales can break out at the yoke while portaging causing injury to both you and the boat. If the inwale breaks out at one of your seat hangers, you could be in for an unexpected swim as your weight suddenly shifts and one side of your seat hits the bottom of your canoe.
That’s why its so important for you to maintain your wood trim. Through regular maintenance, we are able to inspect and monitor the condition of your gunwales.
If you see a gap developing between the inner and outer gunwale, try tightening the screws a quarter turn with a screw driver. If the screw keeps turning you should consider bringing your boat in for us to inspect. We can tell you if you are due for new gunwales, and discuss your options with you. Remember, the inspection and quote are always free at Johnny’s Boat Shop.
